The Philosophy Foundation Specialist Philosophy Teachers
We have Specialist Philosophy Teachers all over the UK and abroad. They all have a minimum of a joint BA Hons degree in philosophy, and have passed our rigorous training in order to be able to deliver philosophy in schools to children of all ages, and train teachers in Enquiry. You can view their profiles by visiting Our Specialist Philosophy Teachers page.
Independent Philosophers
Here you will find philosophers who work in schools and the community who have not necessarily trained with us, but whose work has been recommended to us, or seen by us.
If you would like to be registered with us as an independent philosopher we will need to see your work in action (e.g. on film), or speak to referees, you can be recommended by a fellow philosopher, or have taken a regsitered philosophy with children course (e.g. CoPI, SAPERE, IAPC or similar). You need to be a philosophy graduate to register as an Independent Philosopher with us. Please email emma@thephilosophyshop.co.uk
Philosophers in the Community
As well as working in schools our Specialist Philosophy Teachers are available for running adult philosophy groups or courses as well as one-off workshops in conjunction with special events.
We were invited to join the ENO at their Satyagraha Remix event in March 2010. The evening was an exploration of music, dance, poetry and philosophy all based around Philip Glass’s Opera ‘Satyagraha’.
Rebecca Meitlis, Baylis Consultant said of our work that evening:
“Thank you for transforming the Trafalgar room into a think-tank with a difference. I was amazed at the constant flow of participants right through the evening and how you facilitated discussions to keep them within the framework of Satyagraha and yet encouraged people to talk about what they really wanted to. I had expected it would go well for the first hour or so and then peter (sorry) out, but the philosophers were amongst the last to go. Really interesting.”
