The Philosophy Foundation's work in schools
We can provide the following for both primary and secondary schools:

‘Education to independence demands that young people should be accustomed early to consult their own sense of propriety and their own reason. To regard study as mere receptivity and memory work is to have a most incomplete view of what instruction means.’
G.W.F Hegel (1770-1831)
We can provide the following for both primary and secondary schools:
Resident Philosophers
Hour long weekly philosophical enquiry sessions led by a trained and accredited philosophy teacher. Termly or yearly bookings taken.
Our specialist philosophy teachers can work with all children from Nursery up, and can align the philosophy sessions to the curriculum or topics.
Our sessions foster autonomous learning, critical and creative thinking, as well as developing speaking and listening skills which are vital for literacy. Our sessions have shown to have an impact on thinking and social skills.
The If Odyssey
A 12-week course on the Odyssey for 8-16 year olds based on the forthcoming book, 'The If Odyssey: A Philosophical Journey Through Greek Myth and Storytelling'. This package also includes Ancient Greek language workshops and ties in with many aspects of the curriculum.
Philosophy Workshops
We can run one-off workshops in your school (half-day or full-day) on topics ranging from science, ethics and art to personal identity, politics and introductions to philosophy. We can deliver both lectures for older children as well as participatory workshops. Please contact emma@philosophy-foundation.org if you would like to know more or book a workshop. Or see 'videos' for the type of workshops we have run in the past.
Maths as Enquiry Sessions
This 10 week course fosters a problem-solving approach in the maths classroom.
We developed the package with classroom teachers in response to challenges faced when teaching maths. The attached PDF will take you through our aims and objectives and how we achieve them, plus gives you two lesson plans from the sessions and an article about how to use enquiry to teach problem solving.
